As Promised - New Build Today - Meet Unicorn

Hey!  I have been looking on market and from personal experience and noticed there weren't many builds that spoke to me.  When they had - I would have to mod them to death to make them even remotely like what I wanted them to be.  (This is one of the secret reasons that I learnt to build.)  So, I was speaking to one of my best friends Serra who owns a little realm called Winterfell.  She was bemoaning the lack of amazing store builds.  Ones that you didn't need to do weird stuff to to make them fit the plot.  Ones that when you looked at them you said - ooh I want to shop there.

Now don't get me wrong, there are some amazing builds.  Some that actually make the choir of angels come out and sing a little hymn to you.  Mine sing 30 Seconds to Mars and look like Jared Leto - but hey who am I to judge your angels.-Anyway I digress, I started thinking about builds and stores.  Then I started thinking about my favorite real life stores.  Stores I have shopped at and made me feel like I was somewhere amazing.  And then it hit me.  Replicate one of them -- in your style.  Sooooo, I have.

I want to introduce you to Unicorn (white).  Based off the Unicorn Boutique in Montreal.  I call it white cause I am going to make it in other colors or something else equally clever very soon.  It has a living space above with locking doors.  The store itself has two large windows and a french door entry.  You also have a backroom area and a lovey front window counter display area.

Oh and before you ask - the interior of the store is white.  There is a reason for this.  IMO - your clothes or items for sale should be the jewelry.  I never have understood why people put a bunch of crazy wallpaper up - only to cover it all up with clothes that often clash with it.

-Ok, done rambling.  I hope to see you in sanctuaire soon!

New Build... Hopefully Sunday... Live/Work space

I personally have this weird addiction to live/work spaces.  I don't see why you can't exist and have an awesome shop = all in one location.  Not many stores are set up like that in Second Life but in RL tons are.  I used to live in one - so I am pretty aware of them.

So, I have created one.  I am going to hopefully bring it to you all on Sunday.  (If I can finish texturing it by then.)  Personally I think it is pretty amazing.  But then I built it so I should.  Plus when you see the prims -- you will die.  Really really low prims...

Me on Mesh...Just my opinion

For the record.  I love mesh.  Well I love details and mesh gives me the details I want in an item for very little prims - in most cases.  However I also love the ability to customize items.  I don't know about you but when I buy a home/store/random build - often the item isn't exactly what I want... But it is close.  I tend to only buy builds that I can modify.  Well, with all of the all mesh builds I have found - you either can't or it is tricky to do.  In fact for most people I wouldn't even tell you to attempt modifying them.  Bad bad mojo happens.  So, what is a builder elf to do?   Let me tell you about my - for the moment master plan.  You should lean in close as I whisper this.....

I am going to meld everything into my builds.  Yeah I know, a shocking and majorly strange concept.  Primwork has been around for eons in SL -- so obviously it works.  So I tend to shell (the walls and exteriors) of my builds as primwork.  However I am clever and know of ways to make this lower prim.  And no, I won't tell you how I do this even though I am sure you are smart enough to figure out how I do this.  I use sculpts sparingly.  Why, well cause I honestly feel that in most cases mesh is better - so why use it.  Yes, some cases - it is smarter to use sculpts.  So never be shocked if you see a few but the majority of the build will not be.  Now back to my beloved mesh....  Did I mention that I love mesh?

Any detail that you see in my builds is probably mesh.  Which means you need a viewer able to see mesh.  Why mesh when I can do it in alphas?  Well, I hate alphas.  There I said it.  I hate them.  I hate clashing.  I hate when you look at a window and the tree appears through it.  It just really irks me.  So, why should I use an alpha "sticker" corbel when I can use a mesh one that has so much more detail?  For me logically it is a no brainer.  I am not against wasting a prim or two so I can have the look that I want.  But that is me.

Ok, I vented on my opinions on the current items that I use in my builds.

I hope it clarifies a few questions that I have received...

Viva la Mesh!

P.S. - This doesn't mean that I won't be making an all mesh build ever -- oh it is coming.  Just for now and to make the most people happy - this is the route I am travelling.

Amazing Grace - Now Inworld and on Market

Ok, Fine I know I said I would have it out for tomorrow... Apparently I lied :P

I just put Amazing Grace out cause well, I finished it ahead of my own personal schedule.  I found some gothic windows lying by the canal in Winterfell.  Why someone would abandon four beautiful windows by the water is beyond me but finders keepers.

I decided that I needed a really small house.  However I was told this was more of a shed than a house.  But hey for four foot tall elves (aka me) it makes a great house.  But you could use it as a studio, a garden shed, or even just as a chicken coop for the glamorous chicken we all know.

The build is only 41 prims.  It is partial mesh.  Cause we all know I love my mesh.  I also used a lot of custom textures as well as a few heavily modified ones.

Below are the pictures for the build.  I hope that you love it as much as I do.

New Build Tomorrow!

I am being kinda prolific at the moment and I have almost finished another build.  It is the smallest one yet.  I figure for someone my size it would be a perfect house.  For most it could be a shed or hidey hole....

Anyway it is beautiful and I can't wait for you to be amazed by grace in a few hours.

New House!! Introducing California Dreamin

As promised I released a new house in-world and on market.  Called California Dreamin.  The house is partial mesh and 137 prims.  It includes a deck and porch area as well as a semi furnished kitchen and bath.  You are more than welcome to go to the store and actually walk around it -- since it is in the rezzer right now!  Go and play with the working sinks and wander the open plan living and the bedroom area.  I also for ease (and cause it didn't add an additional prim to the build a false floor in the bathroom so if you don't want a bathroom -- you could turn the room in to a baby room or study.

Take care!

Rezzer fixed. New House Arrives Wednesday... Maybe Sooner.

I have been a busy bee.  Don't laugh to hard.  I have been working on my first ever modern house.  I needed a change of pace.  It is still a one bedroom with a bath and kitchen, but this one has a few special features.  It has actual sinks with running water.    Coming soon I will make an addon pack for purchase of a bath and toilet and a few other accessories as well as a kitchen stove and fridge and other items.  Cause I love details and at this moment I haven't had the time to create one myself in mesh nor have I found one that was made that made my heart happy.  I don't sell anything that doesn't make me happy.   The house's name is California Dreaming.  I will post photos here and on flickr soon as I get the papers up.  (Then fun time with boxing and putting in the rezzer.  Whoohoo)

I am also going to do a mini survey below for people to tell me if I really need gift cards or not.  I try to be semi-democratic.  A part of me doesn't think that I do -- you can gift through the vendors as well as on Marketplace.  So, I don't know.   But it is up to you - not me.  If you want a gift cards -- well then this elf will make you a gift card.  If not, well thanks cause you just saved me 20 min of my life.

Final thought - I am sure that many of you heard about the situation regarding Gala Phoenix of Curio.  I am really, really pissed off about it.  The first skin I ever purchased in SL - way over 3 years ago (almost four) was from Curio.  I really wanted to be in the One Voice sale as well -- but no one got back to me about it. Which is fine -- probably a new designer thing.  But I made a donation and my voice heard.  You can too.  Gala put up a thingy at http://www.indiegogo.com/Curio.  Anything you can donate will help.  Please help fight the good fight.  Content theft should not be allowed or tolerated and people can't be allowed to make up stupid stories cause they got caught with their hands in the cookie jar.  You can read more about the situation here : http://curioonline.org/2012/07/05/curio-news-release/

Ok, enough of me and that -

Take care!

Store is down until this afternoon

Due to a glitch involving squirrels and the house rezzer -- the store/house rezzer will be down until around 6p SLT.  Yes, this is a pain and trust me I wish it wasn't the case but have you ever tried to clean up after fifteen squirrels?

Hopefully I will be up and running much earlier than that.

- Scout

****News**** Chased squirrels away.  Everything is cleaned up and working!  Feel free to visit the store again!

Brand New Build! Le Petit Nid. First in a collection with Noctis

Ok, a few months ago, I was having a conversation with Yelena from Noctis.  (one of the best content creators in Second Life and also one of my personal best friends) Telling her - y'know you really should have houses available through Noctis.  She said that she was asked but really didn't want to be bothered with building them.  I started laughing cause I couldn't be bothered with making furniture anymore.  Like a giant peanut butter cup moment - you got chocolate in my peanut butter, you got peanut butter in my chocolate.  I said - I will build you some houses for Noctis.  A weird Noctis / Sanctuaire collaboration was formed.  The first house I built just for this collection was Le Petit Nid  translates to The Little Nest.

It is a partial mesh build.  Scale wise it is small.  But it does have a kitchen and bath space included.  Unfurnished the house is 108 prims.   All of the textures were created or modded just for this build.  It also has locking doors and a library ladder leading to to the sleeping loft.  The house was built to fit on a small plot with still enough prims available so that you could add your own personal touches to the home.

Coming soon  -- A furnished by Noctis version.  Which should be amazing.  Cause really, when isn't Yelly's stuff awesome.

You can find the house on marketplace here:

Sanctuaire is now open in Winterfell Laudanum

I am so happy to announce that Sanctuaire is now open in Winterfell Laudanum.  It has been a long time coming.  New build, new items, and new start.   After a ton of soul searching and lots of tantrums.  Yes, I throw tantrums - a lot.  I think it goes along the lines of being a crazy perfectionist.  Well, that and being anal retentive.  But after a ton of soul searching and tantrums, I decided that what I truly loved doing is building.  Building is my escape from a ton of stuff.  It saves my sanity in a lot of ways - which considering it is me discussing my sanity - any saving would be helpful.

So, what exactly is Sanctuaire?  For the unknowing or unobservant or the just really lazy and not caring.  Hey not judging - we all have days of not really wanting to do anything but brain veg.  Sanctuaire is French for sanctuary.  The defininition of it is:

  • a sacred holy place
  • Judaism - the Biblical tabernacle or the Temple in Jerusalem. The holy of holies of these places of worship.
  • an especially sacred place in a temple or church
  • part of church around the alter; the chancel
  •  a church or other sacred place where fugitives were formerly entitled to immunity from arrest
For me it is a place of peace.  But for you I hope that Sanctuaire is a place of discovery and happiness.  Enjoy exploring the store as well as the grounds surrounding it.  Go out back and test the rezzer for the builds.  Most importantly just enjoy yourself.
